Montegrappa is a quiet residential locality in the municipality of Tuglie, on top of a hill in the Serre Salentine: a beautiful green lung with groves and pine forests which, from above, dominates the Gulf of Gallipoli and the surrounding villages.
It is its location which makes it special: it’s very close to the sea and to Gallipoli, which is just 10 minutes away, but far from the hustle and bustle, the traffic and the tourist hotspots. During the day, Montegrappa is quiet and calm; in the evening, the main square comes alive with small events, readings and dance evenings.
The heart of Montegrappa is a lush, well-equipped park with children’s playgrounds, sports fields, bars and artisanal ice cream parlours. There’s also a small church dedicated to the Madonna Ausiliatrice del Monte Grappa, from which it takes its name, a mountain on which the founder of this small chapel, Cesare Vergine, a veteran of the First World War, fought.
